This header runs across the top of the page. It’s a crop of a gorgeous mural in East Oakland celebrating the work of local hip hop group Souls of Mischief. This crop features part of the face of SOM member A-Plus with his right arm extended in front of him and his hand waving. Behind him are yellow and orange flowers.

Performing and Visual Artists, Craftspeople, Artisans, and Other Creators

Bay Area musician Diana Gameros performs outdoors on a warm, sunny day. She’s wearing sunglasses. She’s singing into a microphone, and the fingers of her right hand have just completed a down strum on her acoustic guitar. The camera is looking upward at her from below while she smiles and looks up and into the clear, blue sky.

Artists perform alchemy.

They transform media into feelings and ideas that help us see ourselves. They show us the world we live in today and the one we can build for tomorrow. They make us think and inspire us to act.

I support artists’ efforts to meet the practical needs that give them space to create. This includes projects like:

  • Building infrastructure that supports their work

  • Finding the elusive words that do justice to their skill and vision and journey

  • Creating tools to connect their work with the people who are waiting to revere it

My role is to listen closely, share the perspective of an outsider and a supporter, and respect the delicate concerns that arise when a person committed to creativity discusses their life’s work.

Creativity lives among humanity’s defining achievements. It’s an honor to support the dedicated visionaries who preserve priceless craft, create our culture, and enrich our lives.
