This header runs across the top of the page. It’s a close-up of the wing of a monarch butterfly. It’s gold with black edges and white dots. The surface of the wing is covered in thousands of tiny scales. A message is superimposed on one of the golden sections of the wing. It says: “No One is Illegal.”

Immigrants

A white, middle-aged activist faces away from the camera, holding above his head a hand-painted sign that says “Immigrants: We Get the Job Done!”

Immigrants add talent, expertise, and hard work to every sector.

They create art and care for the ill. They feed, clothe, and house us. They’re first responders, laborers, teachers, researchers, scientists, inventors, journalists, and activists.

They're every kind of superhero.

By all objective measures, immigrants strengthen our economy and our society. And they do so in spite of hate fanned by dangerously broken cowards who trumpet our nation’s darkest ideal in order to cling to power.

I’ve had the opportunity to compile and document the detailed immigration stories of a dozen families. These are stories of hardships that defy description. They’re also tales of courage, determination, ingenuity, resilience, and love.

That challenging, wonderful experience corroborated what the facts and data make clear: communities that welcome immigrants are communities that tap the promise and potential of humanity.
